In the 1960s, people had realized that the disease is closely related with free radicals, because of the technique limitation, the progress was very slow. More in-depth studies of free radicals began in the early 21st century. The initial study of free radicals was mainly its chemical reaction process, and then the knowledge of free radical entered into the field of biology.

??What is Free Radical?

The material (including human body) is composed of molecules and atoms. The atom is composed of atomic nucleus and extranuclear electron, the entire atom presents the electric neutrality. Two atomic combinations produce the covalent bond?but if any lack or increase of one atomic happened for some reasons, the original integrated molecule became incomplete fragment, which is called the free radical (Free Radical) in chemistry.

The free radical has three remarkable characteristics: First, Strong Reactivity. Therefore, the majority of the free radicals are all lively, with extremely intense reactivity, and it is easy to produce the stable molecular by reaction. This important character leads the free radical to attack the cell, protein, enzyme, nucleic acid and so on extremely easily. This is also the direct cause that the free radical is easy to harm organisms. Second, it has paramagnetism. The unpaired electrons have spin magnetic moment of the paramagnetism. This character has provided the theory basis for the research of the free radical ESR technology. Third, its life is short. Most free radical reactivity is very strong, but the life is very short, for example the life of the hydroxyl free radical is only 10-6 second. Along with the accumulation of the experimental data and the invention of the electron spin resonate (ESR) meter, the concept of free radical is also expanding and consummating unceasingly.

??The Birth of Free radical

The free radical is intermediary metabolism product of many kinds of biochemistry reactions in the human body vital activity, and it may be endogenous, also may be exogenetic. Endogenous: there are many non-enzymes reactions and Enzyme- Catalyzed Reactions (such as phagocyte system, plastochondria and microsome electronic conduction system, lipin peroxidation process and so on) in organism, which can produce the endogenous free radical. (4) Chemical substance. After chemical substances such as Agricultural chemicals (weedicide, pesticide), medicines (mainly the anti cancer medicines), processed food, synthetic laundry powder and so on, entered the human body, they can produce lots of active oxygen in human body to destroy DNA.
